Peter Cat – Starchamber

As they say in awful American films, it’s been a minute, but a couple of years ago every other piece I published seemed to be about Peter Cat. And so it is that this one is too. A quick recap: it started with impeccable glam pop with a penchant for the strange, dialled the strange up several notches, and now they’re back with a full-on insane clusterfuck of a track named Starchamber.

I’ve been looking forward to it for a while too. Instagram clips of giant golden heads and glitchy video clips with pitch-shifted voices promised something great. Something weird. And make no mistake, Starchamber is fucking weird. Uncompromisingly so.

What does it sound like though? Hmm… well, kind of like ten tracks in one, that are all fighting for your attention at the same time, with typically unhinged vocals, vintage synths, duelling fuzz guitars, and a time signature all over the shop. It’s like a really frightening, yet oddly comforting, cuddle for your brain. Like a shape that is triangular, round, rectangular, and oblong. It’s cumbersome but also compact enough to be stuffed into one of those miserable little metal things easyJet use to squeeze you for more money when you just want to get on the plane. In other words: it’s awesome.
